Chasing Birdies: How It All Started

Some things in life are hard to explain until you've felt them yourself. That feeling when a group of mallards  drops into your decoys at first light. The moment a golf shot flies exactly the way you pictured it. The split second before the green flag drops and everything else disappears. These moments don't last long — but that's exactly the point.

That's what Chasing Birdies is all about.

It Started in the Duck Blind

Michael, the founder of Back Down South Clothing, has been a duck hunter most of his life. There's nothing quite like it — the pre-dawn wake-up, the cold water, the dogs, the waiting. And then, when it all comes together, it's pure magic.

But duck season only lasts a few months a year. And for someone who lives for the chase, the off-season is a long time to sit still.

Golf Filled the Gap — And Then Some

About a year ago, Michael picked up golf. What started as something to do in the off-season quickly became an obsession of its own. And the more he played, the more he noticed something familiar about it.

One day you're striping it down the fairway, draining putts, shooting the round of your life. The next day you can't buy a birdie. The course that gave you everything yesterday takes it all back today.

Sound familiar?

Ducks are there one morning, gone the next. A fast lap time one session, sluggish the next. Golf gives you a taste of greatness and then humbles you right back. That's the game. That's the hunt. That's the race.

The Chase Is the Point

Whether it's a greenhead cupped up over the decoys, a birdie putt dropping on 18, or shaving a tenth of a second off a lap — the feeling is the same. It's the pursuit. The chase. The thing that gets you out of bed before the sun comes up and keeps you coming back no matter what happened last time.

You can't stop chasing birdies. Not on the course. Not in the blind. Not on the track. Because the moment you stop chasing is the moment it stops meaning something.

What Chasing Birdies Means to Us

At Back Down South Clothing, Chasing Birdies isn't just a phrase — it's the spirit behind everything we make. Our gear is built for the people who are always in pursuit. The hunters, the golfers, the racers, the ones who can't sit still because there's always something worth chasing.

If you know the feeling, you already know what we're about.

Keep chasing.#weliveforthis
