How do you re-wax a hat?
After years of heavy use, if water stops beading, you can restore the finish in about 15 minutes:
- Buy a tin of fabric wax (Otter Wax and Fjällräven Greenland Wax are common choices).
- Warm the hat slightly with a hairdryer so the fabric accepts wax.
- Rub the wax bar evenly over the canvas, working it into seams and stress points.
- Warm it again briefly to melt the wax into the fibers, then let it cure overnight somewhere warm.
